Dandruff is not dryness, which is why moisturising shampoos never fix it. It is usually a yeast that lives on everyone's scalp getting out of balance, and it needs an active that actually targets that. This one uses pyrithione zinc, which is the standard, well-evidenced anti-dandruff ingredient.

Green tea extract sits alongside it, and because it is a 2-in-1 it conditions as it cleans. That matters more than it sounds with anti-dandruff shampoos, which have a reputation for leaving hair squeaky and straw-like. One bottle also means one step in the shower.

Formulated for normal hair, and it is designed to control the return of flakes rather than just clearing what is there this week. That is the part that requires you to keep using it.

Which Fructis do you need? Flaking and an itchy scalp: Anti-Dandruff 2-in-1. Hair snapping and breaking: Grow Strong. Damage from colour, heat or the sun: Goodbye Damage. Normal hair that just feels dry: Aloe Hydra Bomb. Very dry, thick or coarse hair: Oil Repair 3 Butter.

Worth knowing: 400ml, the value size. Anti-dandruff actives need contact time, so leave the lather on the scalp for a minute or two before rinsing instead of washing straight off. If flaking comes with heavy redness or sore patches, that is a dermatologist's job, not a shampoo's.
