Hold that survives a Pakistani summer

Most styling products give up by midday here. Humidity pulls moisture back into the hair, the style drops, and frizz returns. Firm-hold gels handle that far better than creams or pomades, which is why they remain the practical choice in Karachi and Lahore from April onwards.

Applying it so it actually holds

• Towel-dry hair, not soaking wet. Product applied to very wet hair spreads too thin and dilutes — this is the most common reason a gel seems weak.
• Use less than you think. Start with a small amount, warm it between your palms, and add more only if you need it. Too much gel is what produces the stiff, visible-product look.
• Work from the back forward so the front does not get the heaviest load.
• Wash it out properly at night. Gel left in day after day builds up on the scalp and contributes to flaking.
