Pakistani winters bring dry air and Pakistani summers bring sun and dehydration. Lips have no oil glands of their own to cope with either, which is why they are the first thing to crack and the last thing most people think to protect.
Vaseline is an occlusive rather than a moisturiser in the usual sense. It does not add water to the skin; it forms a seal that stops water leaving. That is precisely what damaged lips need, and it is why petrolatum has outlasted a century of more sophisticated alternatives.
Apply it to lips that are already slightly damp — straight after drinking water, or after a shower — so there is moisture underneath for it to hold in. On genuinely cracked lips, a thick layer before bed does more overnight than repeated dabs through the day.
Vaseline splits its lip jars into two ranges, and both use the same petrolatum base. The difference is what is added on top.
All four are 7g jars at Rs 529 — small enough to keep in a bag, a desk drawer or a car door. If you want colour, take Rosy Lips. If your lips are genuinely damaged, take Original.
The plain Original jar also works on dry cuticles, cracked heels and rough elbows. For facial hydration, the skincare range is the better place to look.
